Welcome to the Teresa e Alexandre Soares dos Santos Library

A new academic year begins, and a lot of new students arrive at our school full of expectations about their second home in the coming years.

The library is a reference service on campus, and more than a study space, it is also a safe place, open to the entire Nova SBE community for sharing and debating ideas.

Library hours for the entire academic year are available on the website and may vary depending on the academic calendar requirements. In general, it is open every weekday from 9 am to 8 pm with some periods of extended hours in the most demanding phases, from 9 am to 12 am and on Saturdays from 9 am to 6 pm.

What can you find in the Library?

The library has two floors.

On the first floor, you can find the informal reading room where you can do informal things like reading, chat with friends on our sofas or chill in our “nap” room. We do some book presentations, seminars, and presentations in this space too.

It is on this floor that you will find our computers, all available with various resources that will be fundamental to your academic success, such as Bloomberg, Power bi, Python, etc.

The second floor is our study space. A sacred space in this library, especially during the exam season.

You can find in this space a lot of seats. We have a booking system, to book seats, PCs and Group rooms in the library. It’s very important to use it. It’s the only way to ensure your space in the library. Never forget, we have a beautiful space, in a prime location. So, a lot of students from other universities come here to study. But external users don’t have access to the booking system. So it is the best way to guarantee seats for our students, especially in the hard times of exams.

On the second floor you can find the main collection of the library, so most of the times when you search for a book in our catalogue, the location where you can find this book it’s the second floor. All books are organized by the Congress classification. It’s very intuitive, but when in doubt, at any time, you have an enthusiastic team of librarians available to help you.

We have 8 group rooms in the library. 3 on the first and 5 on the second floor. The group rooms have some rules, you can find more information on the booking platform. An important piece of advice is a sense of community, book a room if you need it for teamwork, a meeting, an interview, or similar tasks. Don’t book to watch classes or study. All of you need this space, so this sense of community is very important now.

Off-Campus Access to Library Resources

Most library resources are fully accessible off-campus.

When you are accessing our on-campus resources, through the Eduroam wifi network, access is direct, no authentication is required. Off-Campus access is ensured through OpenAthens, an access management platform, allowing libraries to enable and monitor access to subscribed online content.

All our resources are available on the A to Z list, where you can find a short description of each one and an access link, which directs the user to OpenAthens access. All you need to do is enter your institutional credentials to authenticate and access is guaranteed.

More information can be found on our website, where we frequently share news about our books, resources and activities.

A busy year begins, full of events and activities. From our experience, we know that these years can be quite intense. Manage your time well, make use of the library’s resources and reserve your library spaces in time. Planning and preparation are critical to your academic success.

We are always in touch. Any question can be shared by email through library@novasbe.pt
