Bloomberg

Bloomberg is a key source for current and historical pricing on equities, fixed income securities, foreign exchange and commodities, as well as indicative and fundamental data, customized analytics and business news. Bloomberg also provides company profiles and financial statements, analysts’ forecasts, worldwide financial market news, and multimedia interviews and presentations by key players in business and finance.

Access

We have ten Bloomberg terminals available at the Library and two more at the CTT Student hall.

You need a personal account to use Bloomberg. Double click on the icon for Bloomberg and when prompted to login in, insert your credentials. If you don’t have an account yet, click on the link that says “create a new login” and use your school email (studentnumber@novasbe.pt).

Remember that after 90 days of inactivity you must contact Bloomberg support for a new access code.

Excel Add-in

To install the excel add-in please go to Options > Add-ins > COM add-ins > Bloomberg. Close the excel file and open it again. If this doesn’t work, please call a librarian.

Monthly downloading limit

All Bloomberg terminals have a monthly downloading limit. This is strictly enforced by Bloomberg. If we have reached the downloading limit, users will see the following error message when they try to download data: #N/A Limit. In this case, please use another terminal.

Daily downloading limit

The daily limit is clearly stated in Google: The Daily API limit is 500,000 hits/per day. A “hit” is defined as one request for a single security/field pairing. Therefore, if you request static data for 5 fields and 10 securities, that will translate into a total of 50 hits. The best thing to do is to try to refresh just the portion of the spreadsheet that really needs to be refreshed and avoid refreshing it all or reopening it many times a day. Bloomberg Help desk may advise you on how to create more efficient data queries to minimize the number of hits but they will NOT increase the data limit.

Webinars

Nova SBE students can sign up for Bloomberg monthly webinars and gain more insight into how to use the Bloomberg terminal. Once you sign up you will receive confirmation the following day after 9 a.m. GMT and will be able to join these using your personal computer.

The dates and times will be advertised on the library website.

Remote access to Bloomberg

The remote terminal access provided during the pandemic’s widespread campus closures ended on June 30, 2022.

From now on, students will only be able to access the terminals installed on campus (10 at the library and 2 at the CTT student hall).
