Access and RequestsHow do I request access to DataLab resources or services?

All requests must be submitted via the appropriate request form, available under Request Forms for Resources and Services. There is a specific form for each resource or service. You will be automatically notified by email of updates regarding your application.

Processing times may vary depending on the resource or service requested. You will be notified by email at each stage of the process.

Yes. However, a separate request form must be submitted for each resource or service, as specific conditions apply to each.

Yes. Researchers from other higher education institutions may request access, subject to the applicable conditions of use.

Software and Technical ResourcesWhat software tools are available through the DataLab Computing Services?

The DataLab Computing Services package includes Matlab, Python, R, and Stata, among other tools available upon request.

Software and Technical ResourcesHow do I access the Safe Center?

The Safe Center is accessible only on-site, in Room B105 at Nova SBE. Access is provided through a dedicated virtual machine created for each user. You must submit a request form prior to your first visit.

Access to the Internal Server is provided remotely. You must submit a request form acknowledging the applicable Conditions of Use, as governed by the Library.

Any request for additional software tools should be submitted via the Computing Services request form. The availability of specific tools is subject to approval.

The DataLab computing environment offers GPU resources, multiple CPU cores, and ample RAM, with server configurations compatible with both Linux and Windows Server.

The Social Science DataLab policies apply to all members of the Nova SBE community, including professors, PhD students, and Master’s students, as well as researchers from other institutions who have been granted access.

No. Specific conditions apply to each resource and service. Please refer to the relevant Conditions of Use document for the resource or service you intend to use.

The policies include provisions on disciplinary measures applicable in cases of non-compliance. Users are encouraged to read the relevant section carefully before requesting access.

Database ResourcesWhich databases are currently available through the DataLab?

The DataLab currently provides access to the following databases: Revelio Labs, PitchBook, Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), MISI, and Quadros de Pessoal.

Database ResourcesCan I request access to a database that is not currently available?

Yes. You may submit a new database request via the appropriate form. The Library facilitates requests for new databases either through acquisition or through a data sharing partnership agreement.

Database ResourcesHow can my institution establish a data sharing partnership with the DataLab?

You may submit a request via the Request an Agreement for a Data Sharing Partnership form. The applicable conditions are available under Social Science DataLab Policies.

Database ResourcesDoes each database have different access conditions?

Yes. Each database has specific access and processing rules. The Library promotes compliance through policies grounded in best practices, Open Science, and FAIR principles.

Database ResourcesIs access to database resources free of charge?

Access to database resources is subject to availability and budgetary considerations, at either the researcher or Library level. The Library may facilitate access through institutional acquisition when the database is deemed relevant to a wider segment of the research community. Researchers may also request access through their own budget allocation, subject to the applicable conditions.
